LATEST ENTRY: The Seventh Sense

On Easter weekend, an 11-year-old diabetic girl died from complications with her diabetes. Her parents choose to pray for her recovery rather than take her to a doctor. I was interviewed by several national news shows on TV and radio about spiritual healing and the power of prayer. The media was attempting to understand why anyone would rather pray than take the child to the hospital.
I think that we will never know in this lifetime what the implications of this event are. Was this soul here to bring our attention to child diabetes? Was this soul here to bring our attention to lack of free medical care? Was this soul here to bring our attention to the lack of medical care for children around the world? Was this soul here to bring our attention to the crazies who are raising children? Was this soul here simply to experience life for 11 years and found out all it needed to know? Perhaps all of these things were its intention.
When we pray for healing, God answers in all kinds of ways. The one that spiritual healers sometimes resist is that doctors are God too and that God has sent us doctors to help heal our physical bodies. If someone came to me with a broken bone or a severed finger, I would drive him or her to the emergency room while I was doing a healing. We all need to practice common sense here. It is the seventh sense that everyone seems to forget sometimes.
I am reminded of the story of a man who was stranded on the roof of his house by a flood and he prayed to God to be saved. A man came by in a canoe; then a rescue raft; and then a helicopter came by to take the man to safety. Every time the man refused, saying that God would save him. The man drowned and went to heaven. He asked God why God didn’t save him. God replied, “for heaven’s sake, I sent you a canoe, a raft and a helicopter!”
I hope that we all start exercising our seventh sense and start using more common sense in our healing and spiritual life. This includes spiritual healers who pray for income rather than getting a day job. This is a physical plane world and we have to eat and sustain ourselves. If healing isn’t paying the bills, then get a job for God’s sake!
